The Greenhouse Gas Protocol

چکیده
The Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard provides a step-bystep guide for companies and government agencies to use in quantifying and reporting their GHG emissions. This set of standards was developed by the Greenhouse Gas Protocol Initiative, a partnership convened by the World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). This partnership is made up of businesses, non-governmental organizations, governments and others that work to develop internationally accepted greenhouse gas accounting and reporting standards. These standards benefit business and governments alike by reducing costs, improving consistency and transparency and improving the tracking of emissions reduction progress over time.

Greenhouse gas emissions in Canada and Japan: sector-specific estimates and managerial and economic implications.
Many firms generate large amounts of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases when they burn fossil fuels in their production processes. In addition, production of raw materials and other inputs the firms procure for their operations also generates greenhouse gases indirectly. These direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions occur in many sectors of our economies. In this paper, we first pre...
متن کاملMulti-Gas Strategy in Committing to the Kyoto Protocol
Though the Kyoto Protocol concerns six greenhouse gases, most appraisals in the past have focused exclusively on CO2. But it is now acknowledged that, at least for some countries, there is an important potential of abating non-CO2 greenhouse gases with a relatively low cost. It is then the topic of the paper to present a multi-gas assessment of the Kyoto Protocol and to compare the results with...
متن کاملPrices, Quantities, Timing and Participation in Greenhouse Gas Control Policy
Following a decade of international meetings and negotiations, more than 160 nations signaled their commitment to address the problem of climate change by initialing the Kyoto Protocol in December 1997. The Protocol requires industrialized “Annex I” countries to reduce their total greenhouse gas emissions by an average of roughly five percent compared to 1990 levels; developing countries are no...
متن کاملThe Economics of "When" Flexibility in the Design of Greenhouse Gas Abatement Policies
This paper focuses on the economic desirability of the fixed and relatively short-term greenhouse gas targets and timetables in the Kyoto Protocol. The Protocol provides flexibility in which greenhouse gases to control, where control can be implemented, and what domestic policy measures are used. However, the Protocol does not allow much flexibility in when emission reductions take place in pur...
متن کاملEstimation of gas emission released from a municipal solid waste landfill site through a modeling approach: A case study, Sanandaj, Iran
Sanitary landfill is the common strategy for municipal solid waste management in developing countries. Anaerobic decomposition of disposed wastes in landfill under favorable conditions will lead to the landfill gas (LFG) emissions, considering as emerging air pollutants. The emission of greenhouse gases, including methane, resulting from municipal solid waste disposal and treatment processes ar...
